Sydney, from Sincerely Sydney, reached out to me requesting an interview for her online magazine.
Of course, I jumped at the chance.
If you’re interested in giving it a read, here’s a little taste. Otherwise, head to Sincerely Sydney - Interview with Sydney to read the entire interview.
Did this start out as a hobby that turned into a career? Or did you intend to begin designing to make a career?
This absolutely began as a hobby. I wanted to improve my design skills and decided to start designing some printables and screensavers. Clearly, that didn’t last long.
I went to school for advertising, so I have always been drawn to branding. Once I learned that you could design brands outside of working for an agency, I was hooked. I had to find a way to make this my career.
How important is social media for your business? Is that where you find most of your clients?
Social media has been great for growing my business and expanding my audience. However, I don’t treat it as the end all be all for my business.
I use social media to meet new people, but it typically takes a person choosing to engage with me further, like reading my blog or subscribing to my newsletter, before they decide they want to work with me.
What advice would you give someone who wants to begin designing, but doesn’t know how/where to start?
Just start creating. It doesn’t have to be good or look like your friends work. It just needs to be you putting pen to paper. The more you create, the better it will get. I promise.
