2018 has been a crazy year.
I’ve seen some success, some failure and some long nights working on my laptop in front of the tv. Although, I wouldn’t change anything from 2018, I don’t want to repeat it either.
So, today I want to share with you exactly what I’m doing to prepare my business for the new year. From evaluating 2018, to my life-changing goal-setting method to what I’m focusing on in 2019.
I love hearing from you, so drop a comment about what you’re focusing on in 2019 to inspire me and others!
This year has been a big one for my business. It’s the year my business turned one and began turning a profit. With that kind of year, there is a lot to evaluate.
So, I sat down and evaluated what worked and what didn’t work for my business. I ask myself tough questions about my offerings, marketing, time management, client communication, expenses and processes.
My questions look a little like this:
What am I currently doing?
How is it performing? What is the ROI?
How can I improve it?
Is there anything I should add or remove?
What else could I be doing?
Once I’ve settled on what has and hasn’t been working, I start working on my goals.
Goal-Setting for 2019
At the beginning of each year I make one over-arching goal. That’s the big, scary, don’t-say-out-loud goal .
I break that goal into four high-level stepping stones. Those goals will reflect each business quarter. Each quarter goal gets broken down into three goals, to reflect each month. From there I continue breaking down my goals until I have weekly action steps.
This ensures my goals are tangible and include the small victories. Those stepping stone victories ensure my success for the over-arching goal.
Focusing On In 2019
In 2019, I want to give myself the opportunity to think and work on a bigger scale. Rather than always working in my business, I want to start working on my business.
In 2019, I want to ditch the hustle mindset and prioritize batch work and outsourcing.
Batch work is when you complete one task over again and again. By focusing all of your attention on one task, you are able to complete that task more efficiently.
Up until recently, I thought I was good at batch work.
But, I recently discovered I was thinking too small when it comes to batch work. In 2019, I want to put a stronger emphasis on batch work.
I’m a big believer in outsourcing, especially in business.
You may be the expert at your business, but you can’t be the expert of everything it takes to run your business.
In 2019, I want to outsource as many tasks as my budget will allow. The less tasks I have on my plate, the larger my business can grow.
I’d love to hear from you. What are your goals for 2019? What do you want to start focusing on? Let me know in the comments!
